NAVTA has launched our Veterinary Nurse Initiative, and we need your support, whether it’s $50, $25 or $10. It takes financial resources to work with state legislatures to amend veterinary practice acts, and even with our generous sponsors we still need your help right now to keep our initiative moving forward!
Goals for the Veterinary Nurse Initiative
Our goal is to create a uniform national standard for credentialed veterinary technicians in all 50 states. A majority of states recognize the combination of AVMA-accredited program degree plus passage of the VTNE national exam. In these states the licensed credential is one of Registered, Licensed, Certified or Licensed Veterinary Medical Technicians. In the other states NAVTA’s legislation will standardize the credential, in some cases creating a credential system and establishing the title of Registered Veterinary Nurse.
Ohio in 2018
We introduced legislation in the 2018 Ohio legislature and we were excited to see our bill pass out of the House Agriculture Committee by a vote of 14-1. We are waiting on our summer date for passage by the full House, and then we move on to the Senate. We hope to have Ohio wrapped up before Thanksgiving making it the first state officially to recognize Registered Veterinary Nurses! We’re also excited that Purdue University announced that it is changing its degrees in Veterinary Technology to Veterinary Nursing, and over 20 organizations have officially endorsed the VNI.
We need your support now! Please consider a donation of $50, $25 or $10 to finish our work this summer and fall in Ohio and prepare for the next group of states in 2019. It’s easy to contribute with a credit card by clicking on the PayPal button below. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, suggestions or want to help in other ways.
Thank you for contributing to the future of our profession!
