The Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) endorses the title change of Registered Veterinary Technician to Registered Veterinary Nurse. IVMA fully commends and supports the mission of the Veterinary Nurse Initiative (VNI), which has been led by efforts from the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and the Indiana Veterinary Technician Association (IVTA). These efforts continue around the country and in Indiana.
Veterinary nurses/technicians play a vital role in the veterinary health care team throughout a diverse profession. The IVMA believes that the stated goals of the VNI to unite the profession under a single title and credentialing requirements, while further defining scope of practice, will ultimately improve public perception o the profession and elevate the standards of credentialed individuals. This will no doubt improve veterinary health care across the country.
